| January 23, 2012 - Epipen - Important Health Information
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Problems related to the widespread power outage last week continue to surface. One of
the concerns is that temperatures inside many homes and school buildings in our region
likely dropped below 59 ° F for many days following the loss of electricity. According to
the manufacturer, Dey Laboratories (800-395-3376), Epipens have not been tested for
consistent functioning after exposure to temperatures below 59 degrees F. SVSD Health
Services personnel have been in contact with various health agencies and pharmaceutical
resources to collect as much information about this issue as possible. You may want to
do more research on this for yourself. The manufacturer’s website information is located
at http://www.epipen.com/about-epipen/storage
If your student has an Epipen dose/supply at school, we ask that you contact your child’s
physician for guidance as to whether your child’s Epipen(s) should be replaced.
Should you choose to replace your child’s Epipen(s), please bring the new supply to your
school nurse.
You may reach your school nurse through your student’s school.
