Special Education Kindergarten Extended Day Program

Program Model

teacher_kidsThe Kindergarten Extended Day Program is housed at Snoqualmie Elementary School and serves children who are transitioning from the preschool special education classes. Students are recommended for this program based on the need for more supportive and structured programming before full transition to their home schools. Students participating in this program arrive at school an hour before the kindergarten sessions begin and participate in pre-teaching activities where skills and concepts that will be covered in the regular kindergarten session are initially presented and practiced. This time is also utilized by special education support staff for pullout and/or in-class therapy so that time out of the regular kindergarten sessions is minimized. When the regular kindergarten sessions begin, children transition into their respective classrooms and fully participate with their typically developing peers with full support from the special education teacher and technicians. Special education staff assist the general education teacher with classroom management, behavior management and instruction.
