The E-Rate Program is a relatively new federal subsidy that originated with the Telcommunications Act of 1996 and is administered by the Schools and Libraries Division of the Universal Service Administrative Company. The SLD provides affordable access to telecommunications services for all eligible schools and libraries in the United States. Funded at up to $2.25 billion annually, the Program provides discounts on telecommunications services, Internet access and internal connections. The Snoqualmie Valley School District will receive approximately $45,000 from the SLD for discounts on telecommunications services during the current school year.
