Our Learning Improvement Team
The Mount Si Learning Improvement Team consists of the Principal, two parents, two students, two classified employees, and five certificated classroom teachers.  We meet monthly, striving to keep our focus on matters of genuine learning improvement.  Following extensive analysis of our school results for the past three years, we have focused our attention on increasing the writing skills of our students.  Aided by our Learning Improvement Budget of nearly $13,000, our LIT has placed particular focus on writing within all curricular areas at Mount Si High School.  The staff received training in August in a nationally recognized writing program.  Periodically during the school year, staff were trained to score their writing samples to provide immediate feedback to their students.  Additionally, other staff was trained to score and assess student writing to the same writing model as taught in the language arts program.  The continuity of this writing focus across all subject areas, provides students with consistency of instruction and training to writing expectations.

Additionally, Mount Si has developed and implemented the electronic portfolio.  Each portfolio contains specific target competencies, specific reflective questions, and self-administered evaluation tools.  Students are now in their third year of uploading “artifacts” of their best work for every realm of their Mount Si education.  By the year 2008, graduating seniors will be required to present their portfolio as the state-required culminating project
