Edwin
R. Opstad is one of five elementary schools within the Snoqualmie Valley
School District. Our school, named
after the founder of our School District, Edwin R. Opstad, is located in the
foothills of the Cascade Mountains.
Opstad Elementary School opened in 1988. A year later, 9 additional classrooms were
added bringing us to a total of 25 classrooms. Our school features a library,
computer lab, music lab, art room, gym, multi-purpose room, stage, and extra
large interior hallways that we use for supplemental projects and tutoring
space. We have two modular buildings
on site which house four rooms for some of our special programs and classroom
project spaces. Our October 1, 2005 enrollment, in kindergarten through fifth
grade, was 547 students. Special
programs at our school include: Highly Capable Program for 4th & 5th
Grade, Student Academic Support Program, and Special Education. |

Our
school has a full time counselor, librarian, art instructor, music teacher
and PE teacher. Students have instruction weekly from our PE teacher, music
teacher, art instructor, librarian, and in the computer lab. All classes rotate through these
"special classes" throughout the week. Our school also has a speech and language
pathologist, occupational therapist, school psychologist, and school nursing
services. |

Opstad
Elementary School is a professional learning community. Teachers and parents work together to
analyze student achievement results and other data, to establish improvement
targets and annual goals. We identify
priority areas for staff training, effective use of time and resources, and
school improvement plans. The Opstad
staff has aligned our curriculum and instructional materials with the
Washington State's Grade Level Expectations.
These Grade Level Curriculum Standards, in each subject area, have
become our guides for instruction, assessment, selection of teaching
resources, and Progress Reports. We continue to add titles to our library
collection. Opstad's library has over
15,000 titles for student, staff, and parent use. Over 600 book sets are available for
teachers to check out to supplement our new reading series. Thanks to the support of our voters on our
technology levy, we have a computer lab with 29 computers. Every classroom has three to five
additional computers. All of our
computers are networked and connected to the Internet with a filtering
system, which prevents students from accessing inappropriate websites. |
