| At
Snoqualmie Middle School we focus on our students' needs through: * Creating a 6-7-8 bridge between elementary and high school that targets developmental levels of students. * Student schedules designed to focus daily on core subject areas (language arts, literature, social studies, math, science). * Exploratory courses offering students a variety of experiences in fitness, health, technology, art, shop, band, choir and extra reading and math practice. * Staff teaming to monitor student progress, coupled with intervention programs to address individual academic concerns. * Program for highly-capable students at all grade levels with an accelerated focus in math and literary skills. * Science classes that actively incorporate lab opportunities, discussions and technology integration. * Strong special education and Title 1 programs at each grade level with IA support. * Student leadership opportunities, including Student of the Month recognition to reward exemplary behavior. * Involving parents and community members in a variety of volunteer roles. |

| Other special features about our school: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Student achievement has been on an upward trend with students scoring better than the state average on all three of the core competencies in reading, writing, and math. The average teacher experience is 10 years with 65% of staff possessing a master degree or higher. A monthly character trait is the focus for the SMS Student of the Month recognition program. Monthly traits include: respect, responsibility, courage, generosity, integrity, kindness, flexibility, persistence and positive attitude. We provide opportunities to support students through our full time counselor, assistance from community agencies like Friends of Youth and Mental Health Northwest. Snoqualmie Middle School is in partnership with colleges and universities to support the learning of student teacher interns. We focus on learning for all students, staff and parents. Our Parent Teacher Students Association (PTSA) is an extremely active group. PTSA membership grew steadily throughout the year with over 200 registered members. PTSA fundraising efforts support teacher mini-grants to enhance classroom instruction. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
