  Snoqualmie Middle School set the following goals for the 2006-2007 school year based on data gathering from our past WASL scores and building assessments, as well as discussions and study of standards in reading, writing and math.

  Reading:  76% of  7th grade students and 82% of 8th grade students will meet or exceed standard in Reading as measured by the WASL at the end of 2007.  Specific areas for focus:
  * Comprehension: Apply before, during & after reading strategies, make predictions, find evidence, inferences, main ideas.
  * Think critically, analyze and interpret authors’ purpose in literary and informational texts.
  * Analyze/interpret literary elements, features and graphics (plot, character setting, conflict resolution, simile, metaphor).
  * Apply fluency to enhance comprehension.

  Math:  68% of 7th grade students will meet and/or exceed the standard on the 2007 Math WASL.  Specific areas of focus:
  * Geometry (6th and 7th grades)
  * Algebra (6th & 7th grades)
  * Problem Solving (6th & 7th grades)

  Writing:  77% of SMS 7th grade students will meet and/or exceed the standard in content, organization and style as mea-
  sured by the 2007 writing WASL and SMS Writing Assessments.  Specific areas of focus:

  We also developed other school-wide goals that support our learning community.  Through our parent newsletters, we share the goals and practices that we believe will embrace learning for all SMS students and adults.

  How can parents/community help?
  A key to student success is the active participation of the students' parents.  At Snoqualmie Middle School, staff is continually willing to communicate with parents about their child. Teachers meet daily as a team and set time each week to meet with parents about student needs. Parents can support their child by reviewing their daily Eagle Agenda and weekly reviews established by classroom teachers.  SharePoint, online grading and progress reports also provide parents with communication about their child.  Attending school-wide events, volunteering, participating in monthly PTSA meetings and parent support meetings will demonstrate a knowledgeable and caring attitude about your child in middle school.  Parent partnership and attendance at all events contributes to student success at Snoqualmie Middle School.
