At the Empty Bowls event January 20, Mount Si High School cheerleaders served soup to more than 100 community members who attended the fundraiser. Mount Si’s Culinary Arts students also supported the event where participants enjoyed an impressive selection of more than 13 different kinds of steaming soup donated by local restaurants. Live jazz music from Mount Si musicians set the mood for a festive Friday evening meal.
A $15 ticket to the event purchased a bowl of soup and bread, as well as a hand-crafted ceramic bowl made by students at Chief Kanim Middle School, Twin Falls Middle School and Mount Si High School. Enjoy photos below of the colorful assortment of unique bowls created especially for this event.
A preliminary estimate is that the event raised approximately $1,500! All of the proceeds will be donated to the Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank and the Fall City Food Pantry.
Special thanks to the following local restaurants and businesses which donated soup or other items for the event (listed alphabetically): Ana’s Mexican Kitchen, Brickyard Brewing, Fall City Roadhouse, Finaughty’s, Infusion, Little Si Lounge, North Bend Bar & Grill, Rhodies BBQ, Ridge Café & Deli, Rio Bravo, Snoqualmie Brewery, Snoqualmie IGA, TPC/Club at Snoqualmie Ridge, Twede’s and Woodman Lodge.
Assistant Cheer Coach Janice Wintermyer explained that the Cheer Team revived this event as a way to give back to the community. In addition to raising money to help feed local families, the Empty Bowls project is intended to raise awareness about hunger issues in the community and world.
