Mount Si High School was selected from nearly 100 high school jazz bands from across the U.S. and Canada, for the prestigious festival. The selection process included a “blind" audition in which the bands submit recordings of their performances of three tunes from the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s library.
Two other bands from Washington State -- Edmonds-Woodway High School and Mountlake Terrace High School -- were also named as 2017 finalists.
Prior to the festival, the finalist bands will receive an in-school workshop led by a professional musician before coming to New York to put up their “Dukes” and perform before Wynton Marsalis and a panel of esteemed judges.
Once in New York, the students will spend three days immersed in workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals and performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center. On May 13, the festival will conclude with a concert featuring the top three bands performing with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The festival will be live webcast on - May 11-13.
