Cooperative Learning

Group Rules

  • Every member of each group is responsible for all work.
  • If there is a disagreement, build on consensus in a constructive manner (not a majority rule).
  • Be open to other members' ideas and encourage their participation. Make sure no one is left out.
  • The group facilitator is not in charge of the group. This person simply keeps the group organized on a particular day. Each time the group works on a task, I choose a different group facilitator.
  • A different role is assigned to the group participants each time the group works on a new task. Roles of the group might be a recorder, a reporter, a monitor, an observer, a questioner, a summarizer, etc. Roles should be changed frequently, so that members have opportunity to practice new roles, and should be designed to fit the group's particular task
