District Standards

SVSD 410 is standardized on PC’s running Windows XP Professional and Office 2003. We are currently in the planning stages for a migration to Windows 7 in 2010. Some of our minimum specifications are:

  • Pentium IV 3.0 Ghz or higher processors with 2 GB of RAM and 17” LCD monitors
  • Servers are running Windows 2003 Server or later in a virtual environment and are mostly rack mounted HP Proliant.
  • Printers: HP 4000 series and HP 1100 or higher
  • Primary Copiers - CopyStar CS-8030's (copy, print and scan)
  • Core network - Foundary Fast Iron
  • Edge network - SMC and HP switches
  • Enterprise Wireless - Aruba Wireless

Software and web resources used district wide are:

  • Databases- MS SQL or MS Access
  • Spreadsheets- MS Excel
  • Presentation- MS PowerPoint
  • Word Processing- MS Word
  • Desktop Publishing- MS Publisher
  • E-mail- MS Outlook
  • Antivirus- Sophos
  • Remote desktop support - Dameware Utilities
  • Web filtering- SurfControl on a Watchguard Firebox
  • PDF’s-Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Student Information System –Skyward WESPaC
  • Safe Search Engine - NetTrekker d.i.
  • Classroom web sites - Sharepoint
  • District Calendar - Trumba
  • Electronic news (ENews) - Constant Contacts
  • Interactive Whiteboard - ACTIVStudio and ACTIVInspire

In addition, a number of misc. and specialized software packages are used at specific grade levels and or in specific subject areas. A thorough analysis is performed prior to new software being adopted so as to minimize the number of unique software packages and reduce support
