CTE Month
-
During February, we will showcase several engaging learning opportunities available to students through our district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. High school students can choose from over 68 CTE classes offered in five career pathways (Agriculture, Business and Marketing, Family Consumer Sciences, STEM Health Science, and Skilled Technical). In addition, CTE exploration begins in our middle schools with digital media course options.
Check out our featured courses and their projects below.

We are continuing our feature on CTE during the month of February. This time, we caught up with students from Mr. Dockery's Digital Media Academy.Students choose their path from animation, illustration, graphic design, and film. Students get real hands-on experiences and even have the opportunity to get certified in several Adobe products.Currently, students are working on dialogue scenes, 3D animations, traditional drawing, digital drawing, and graphic design.More photos of this class can be found on our Facebook page.

Next up in showcasing different Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses in the district is the Woods 3 class. Mr. Meyers teaches the class.
In this hands-on class, students work as independent contractors constructing projects for customers throughout the school. From large cabinets for the band to shuffleboard for ASB, students spend time drawing and outlining the project before preparing a quote based on the material used.
After approving the quote, students begin constructing and building the project. See the pictures below and read about each project.
Project 1 - You're looking at a design for a large cabinet that will hold all of the instruments for the band. First, the students used a CADD program and are now cutting out the materials. They currently have one of the five cabinets complete.
Project 2 - These students recently designed a ShuffleBoard table that the ASB students will use. This project took a little extra time in the design phase since they didn't know much about the game of shuffleboard. Now, they're ready to begin the next phase of building!
Project 3 - These students collaborated with the metal department to create a sign for Trail Youth Coffee! They have another board to complete, before piecing them together with the metal sign.
Project 4 - Students are building a miter saw station that will be used in the class for future projects!
Project 5 - After finishing their materials list, parts, and an approved estimate, these students are ready to build shelves for the MSHS custodians! -
Mount Si’s Principles of Marketing class is taught by the Marketing Education teacher, Ms. Hawkins. Students were randomly assigned a company, a product category, and a problem to solve. In 40 minutes, they needed to invent, promote and present their products to the class. Each group had to research their demographic, psychographics, geographics, and buying behaviors. During their presentation, they needed a description, product features, product benefits, and identify their target audience. We definitely have some creative thinkers among future Wildcat entrepreneurs! More photos from this event are available.
