Snoqualmie Valley Kiwanis sponsors an annual Kindness Essay Contest for 5th grade classes throughout our school district. Students are encouraged to share a story about kindness – either something they’ve done for others, or that others have done for them. After reviewing hundreds of submissions, Kiwanis members selected 12 winners, along with several runners up. To announce the lucky winners, Kiwanis representatives visited classrooms, asking the winners to read their stories out loud to their classmates. The winners each received a certificate and $50 cash from Kiwanis, plus runners up received a certificate and a new game as a prize.
This year the Snoqualmie/North Bend Fire Department also enjoyed reading the essays and selected five student authors to reward $50 cash prizes. Together, the visits to our schools from Kiwanis members, fire fighters, and police officers made these celebrations extra special, while promoting empathy and kindness throughout our schools.
