Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (commonly referred to as Section 504) is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. Section 504 applies to public schools and other federally funded institutions.

SVSD is committed to providing equal opportunities and benefits equal to those provided for students without disabilities. All staff is committed to providing the accommodation, aids, and services needed for a student to access and benefit from education.

To qualify for Section 504 Services, eligibility determination is conducted, and a three-pronged approach is applied such that:

1. The student has a physical or mental impairment;

2. The impairment limits one or more major life activities; and

3. The student requires accommodations, aids, and/or services during school activities for their educational needs to be met as adequately as those of their non-disabled peers.
