Assessment Philosophy

  • The Snoqualmie Valley School District is committed to using a variety of assessment methods and tools from multiple sources so classroom teachers can better understand what students know and are able to do and inform decisions about future learning goals.  No one assessment tool can provide all of the answers needed to make well informed decisions. While our goal of learning may be the same for all students, an individuals’ way of achieving those learning goals may vary.  Therefore, all students must be provided multiple opportunities for learning and for demonstrating understanding. 
    There are four goals that guide the assessment practices within our district.  Assessment are used for the following purposes:
    1. To screen, monitor, and diagnose student progress over time.
    2. To help identify the needs of individual students
    3. To ensure appropriate placement and interventions
    4. To determine the effectiveness of instructional programs and make modifications where needed.  

    There are two overarching types of assessments that are used in the Snoqualmie Valley School District; Formative and Summative.

  • Taking a test
