Answers to your FAQ's:
If your child is sick or will be absent for any other reason, please be sure to contact the office first thing in the morning so they are aware and the absence can be excused. When possible, I would also appreciate an email so that I am aware of the absence as well. If your child will be absent for an extended amount of time, please let me know in advance so I can prepare materials. If you are leaving on vacation I will do my best to provide materials but cannot replace in-class instruction and experience. It is very helpful to know in advance!
After School Changes
Please send a note or e-mail if there is a change in after school schedule/pickup/bus. Without a note, I must send students where they are scheduled to go for their safety.
When students arrive, they will drop off their backpacks and go right to the playground until the first bell rings. Backpacks may be lined up on the wall outside of our classroom. This is the procedure whether students are walkers, bus riders, or dropped off by an adult. If students are late to school, they MUST check in at the front office first.
If your student would like to celebrate their birthday at school, they may bring in their favorite book from home to share with the class. We will do a special class song, birthday crown, and they will get to choose an item out of the prize box. If you would like to be a part of the birthday celebration, you are welcome to come in and read the story to the class. Please, no birthday treats!
*To avoid students getting their feelings hurt, invitations to birthday parties will not be allowed in class. Please contact families to invite them to birthdays using the class directory.
My e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org and my classroom phone number is (425)831-3829. E-mail is the best way to reach me. If you call during school hours, it is unlikely that I will be available to answer. If you have an urgent message or a sudden change in after school changes, please call the main office.
My classroom management system and many of my teaching methods come from Whole Brain Teaching (WBT), which is a research-based system that focuses on using each part of the brain to encourage learning and positive behaviors. Students will be learning through movement and motions, repetition, and teaching each other. Students will be positively reinforced through a “Super Improvers” sticker chart, while also being redirected using “practice cards” to practice which of the Five Classroom Rules they need to improve on. If a student receives more than 2 practice cards in one day, you will be informed through a note home. For more information on Whole Brain Teaching, visit http://wholebrainteaching.com/
Kindergarten students work hard at school all day, so homework is not something that will be given on a regular basis. Some ideas of at-home things they can work on are:
Extra math practice (will send home if needed)
Reading 10-20 minutes every night
Working on sight words
Online programs- will send home login information when up and running
If your student is getting hot lunch, I have a system for signing up for lunch at school. However, when learning new procedures, students may forget so I suggest sending a note/e-mail to me for the first few weeks if they are getting hot lunch. Please make sure their lunch accounts are loaded with money online, or send in a check or cash in an envelope with their name on it.
If you do not want your student to appear in photos on the district/school website, or my classroom website, you must fill out an opt-out form. You can get a form from either the office or district website.. Also, please let me know if you will be opting out of photos.
Please make sure your child comes to school with proper clothing for the weather. As you know, the weather can change very quickly (especially in the fall and winter). I recommend that your kiddo always comes to school with a coat! Please label your child's coat with their name on the inside tag.School HoursMonday-Thursday: 9:00 am-3:26pmFriday: 9:00 am-1:26 pm*Kindergarten students will walk out of school a few minutes before the rest of the students, around 3:20 M-TH, and 1:20 F.Snacks & Water
Please send a nutritious snack to school with your student each day. Please pack snacks in a separate section of your students backpack other than their lunchbox. Please send in a spill-proof water bottle to keep at school, as we do not have a drinking fountain in our classroom. Students will bring home their water bottles every Friday to get washed over the weekend.
Star of the Week
Every student will get the opportunity to be the Star of the Week one time throughout the school year. When it is your student’s turn, they will bring home a poster to fill out and decorate over the weekend to bring back on Monday. They may also bring a few pictures of them with important people in their lives (pictures will be returned home at the end of the week). One Friday of their week, students may bring in a show-and-tell item. I will send home reminders when it is your child’s week!
The take-home folder will be a great means of communication for us. This folder is to come to school each day and will go home each night. All paperwork from myself, as well as important handouts from the school and PTSA, will be in this folder. If you have anything to give me, please put it in this folder. Please remind your student to show you this folder each night.
I will send out a Weekly Newsletter every Thursday via e-mail, and also post it on my website. It is important that you read the newsletter every week to stay updated on what is going on in class. If I have other important information throughout the week, I will contact you by e-mail.
