Dear families of students who receive special education services,
The Snoqualmie Valley School District continues to prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff and community as we navigate these unprecedented times. On Friday, information was sent out to all SVSD families about keeping students engaged, remaining connected, and providing a variety of optional educational activities aligned with relevant grade levels and content areas. I have been working alongside our Teaching and Learning department, and want to assure you that the District is committed to equitably meeting the needs of our students who receive special education services.
We continue to receive guidance from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) on state expectations and have had the opportunity to connect with other school districts as we develop our plans. Special education staff are meeting this week to collaborate and think creatively about how to provide resources and optional education-related activities that are appropriate for our students. Special education teachers and support staff will be connecting with you this week to discuss options and supports needed for your student.
In addition, your student’s case manager or school psychologist will contact you about participating in any upcoming or previously scheduled re-evaluation meetings and IEP meetings. These meetings will be held via phone or video conferencing at a mutually agreed upon date and time. If you prefer to hold an in-person meeting, however, you may request to delay any proposed team meeting until your student’s school is back in session.
The District will continue to provide ongoing communication to keep you informed. I will make sure to include specific information as it becomes available for our families of students who receive special education services.
