Our district will continue to provide school meals free of charge to all students through the end of 2020-21 school year, thanks to a waiver from the USDA that will reimburse school districts during this pandemic.
Guidelines for In-School Learners:
Elementary K-5 Grades: Currently, students will not be eating meals or snacks while at school. Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottle to school, labeled with their name, to minimize contact areas at water fountains. With the new AM/PM Elementary schedule, P-5 hybrid students in the morning (AM) in-person cohort will be dismissed prior to lunch, and students in the afternoon (PM) in-person cohort will arrive after lunch. This schedule allows for a significant midday break to allow for all students to eat lunch at home. Teachers will take lunch orders from in-person students, and hand them a sack when their session is dismissed with lunch and breakfast items to eat at home or the next morning.
Secondary 6-12 Grades: Secondary students attending our middle schools and high schools in person will be eating lunch in school. Each building has set up chairs or tables for the students to sit at during the lunch period. Breakfast will not be served at school, before the school day starts. For those picking up school meals at lunch time, each student will receive one breakfast and one lunch. All meals will continue to be free for the rest of the school year. To limit touch points, no ala carte or extra purchases will be offered at this time. There will also be no salad or condiment bars as all components of the meals will be handed to the students.
Drinking fountains are also closed to limit common touch areas, however water bottle filling stations are accessible to students. Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle (labeled with their name) that can be filled at bottle filling stations.
Free School Meals "To Go" Available for Pick-up:
Students of all ages who are learning at home, whether fulltime remote learners or only on Wednesdays during asynchronous (at-home) learning for hybrid students, are able to pick up free meals "to go" Monday-Friday, on school days, at locations throughout the school district.
- Distribution locations for meals "to go" include all *six SVSD elementary schools and Mount Si High School, 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. daily.
- On Wednesday, approximately 9 bus routes are also used to deliver free meals to neighborhoods. Click here for specific bus stop locations and times.
- *UPDATE regarding NBES location change (2/22/21): The North Bend Elementary pick-up site has moved to the former Two Rivers School parking lot nearby (300 Ballarrat Ave. N.) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday -- to alleviate NBES congestion as more students return in person. On Wednesdays only, the pick-up location will remain at North Bend Elementary (not Two Rivers).
