Lunch Expectations

  • Currently, students will not be eating meals or snacks while at school. Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottle to school, labeled with their name, to minimize contact areas at water fountains.

With the new AM/PM Elementary schedule, hybrid students in the morning (AM) in-person cohort will be dismissed prior to lunch, and students in the afternoon (PM) in-person cohort will arrive after lunch. The schedule allows for a significant midday break to allow for all students to eat lunch at home.

Free School Meals "To Go" Are Available:

Our district will continue to provide school meals free of charge to all students through the end of 2020-21 school year, thanks to a waiver from the USDA that will reimburse school districts during this pandemic.

For in-person hybrid learners, the district will offer breakfast and lunch meals "to go" for students to take home to eat at all our elementary schools. These will be handed our near their dismissal times, for those who request a meal that day.

Students of all ages who are learning remotely, including all students on Wednesdays during asynchronous (at-home) learning, are able to pick up free meals "to go" Monday-Friday.

    • Currently (through January 15), meals are available for pick-up at five school locations with curbside distribution and about 9 bus routes to neighborhoods. See details.
    • Starting January 19, when the new Elementary AM/PM schedule begins and K hybrid student begin in person, distribution locations for meals to go will be expanded to all six SVSD elementary schools and Mount Si High School.
    • Starting January, we will no longer be able to use buses to deliver meals to neighborhoods, since our buses will be needed to transport students most school days. There's a chance we may be able to add meal deliveries using buses on Wednesdays, but we are still working out those details.

Watch for updated times and locations of our meals program on the Distance Learning 2.0 Food Services webpage, after January 19.
