- SMART Tag
SMART Tag for SVSD Students and Parent Portal
-
Where do I sign up for Parent Portal?
Go to this link:
Enter your student's ID number as a seven digit number (you may have to add a zero in front of it.
-
How does it work?
Students will be issued a Smart Tag Bus Badge with an unique 14 digit number on the imbedded RFID chip. As they load or disembark the school bus, they wave the card past the Smart Tag card reader to log on and off the bus.
Transportation can keep track of all of students loading/unloading and bus locations. This is an excellent tool for keeping track of our younger students and making sure everyone is on the right bus and using the correct stop.
We take the safe Transportation of your student seriously and believe the safety features of this product greatly enhance the safety and security of our student body.
To sign up for Parent Portal, watch the helpful videos below and then go to this link: SVSD Parent Portal Site
-
Is student information stored in the Smart Tag Bus Badge?
No information is stored on a Smart Tag Bus Badge. Each card contains an RFID chip with a unique 14 digit code that is assigned to that student. No other or personal information is stored on the card.
-
Do the Smart Tag Bus Badges track student location?
Tags only have a 14-digit code which represents the student information in the system. The badge only registers when a student gets on and off the bus and cannot be read/tracked anywhere else or read/tracked by any other product or method.
-
Can I see when my student gets on/off the bus?
Yes, guardians will be able to view a student’s ridership activity for the entire school year through the Parent Portal. If a guardian wants to review the daily history, it will take a minute from loading/unloading the bus for SMART tag to update its records due to network connectivity. Be aware it may take longer if there is a poor signal or the network provider is experiencing a delay/latency issue out of the school district’s control.
-
Can my student get off at a different stop or ride a different bus?
No, there are no longer bus passes. All students need to load and unload at their assigned stops and ride their assigned buses. If a family has different households that the student may be visiting, they will need to register those addresses and days assigned with the school registrar who will then ensure Transportation gets the information loaded into Smart Tag.
-
Is a Smart Tag Bus Badge needed to ride the bus?
Yes. This is for safety and security, it will also ensure your student is on the right bus to/from school. Smart Tag Bus Badges are required for all bus riders. Contact SVSD Transportation office to ensure your student has a printed Smart Tag Bus Badge.
-
What if my student forgot their badge, can they still ride the bus?
If the student does not have their bus badge, they will need to wait to be the last student loaded as the driver will need to manually log them in and as this is a time consuming process, may cause a delay in the running of the route.
-
What if my student lost their tag or does not have a Smart Tag bus badge yet?
If your student lost their bus badge, have them let their school know and the office will email us with the Smart Tag requests.
