Elementary SEL Assessment

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the development of knowledge, attitudes and skills for self-control, empathy, cooperation, and problem-solving which are skills that are foundational to academic success.

Elementary staff utilize an assessment tool, SAEBRS®, to measure their students’ acquisition of social-emotional skills. SAEBRS® is aligned to the Washington State Adopted SEL Standards, Benchmarks, and Indicators. The  data gained from SAEBRS® is used to identify the most appropriate instructional and classroom supports. Use of SAEBRS® may also show patterns among larger groups of students and inform planning for school-wide support along with the classroom practices and instruction.

SAEBRS® encompasses both student self-assessment and teacher assessment, providing a holistic view of students' social, academic, and emotional behaviors, as they align to SEL standards.   Students in 2nd-5th grade complete the mySAEBRS self-assessment. The mySAEBRS self-assessment is a 20-item rating scale that students self-report their well-being in the areas of Social Behavior, Academic Behavior, and Emotional Behavior. The mySAEBRS student assessment is quick to administer. It takes approximately five minutes for students to complete. The results from the assessment are utilized to ensure student needs are being met.

The questions on the SAEBRS assessment are aligned to the Washington State Adopted SEL Standards, Benchmarks, and Indicators.  Families wishing to opt their student out of the 2nd-5th grade self-assessment must fill out the Opt-Out Form.
