State Assessment Message
Spring 2024 Update
The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) is administered every spring in math and English language arts to students in grades 3-8, as well as all 10th graders and any 11th graders who still need to meet a graduation pathway requirement. Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).
The SBA is a very important assessment in Snoqualmie Valley for a variety of reasons. Results are used to identify student strengths and needs, inform our programming, and identify teacher professional development needs. We also analyze the data as a district and by school to track student proficiency and growth, related to individual/subgroup progress.
Students will take these state assessments in May, with most taking the tests online. Watch for information coming from your student’s school with specific testing dates and times.
Your family’s partnership is vital to ensuring the highest possible level of participation in this year’s SBA/WCAS exams. Please refrain from scheduling any appointments or vacations during your student’s testing schedule and make sure your child is present on all test days. Ensuring your student is well-rested and eats a nutritious breakfast on test days will also help set them up for success.
The results of these assessments will be posted in Skyward Family Access as soon as the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) releases the score reports. Families will be notified when their students' results are available.
