Elementary ELA Curriculum Recommendation Update
Snoqualmie Valley School District has completed a year-long review of new English Language Arts materials for grades K through 5 and is recommending Emerge! as the district’s next elementary ELA curriculum.
Our current curriculum was adopted more than a decade ago and is no longer available for purchase. The district’s goal was to identify a program that reflects current research and best practices in literacy instruction and helps students continue to grow as readers and writers.
A team of teachers and instructional leaders reviewed multiple programs, piloted lessons with students, gathered feedback, and studied the results before presenting a recommendation to the School Board on April 7.
Why Emerge?
- Builds foundational reading skills, including phonics, decoding, and fluency.
- Supports strong comprehension and deeper thinking about texts.
- Includes engaging reading and structured writing experiences.
- Provides support for students at different learning levels.
- Offers assessments and progress monitoring to guide instruction.
- Includes enrichment opportunities to challenge advanced learners.
Emerge! aligns with Washington State learning standards and is designed to support students from early reading development through more advanced thinking, writing, and communication.

- April 7 to May 6: Public review of materials.
- May 7: School Board consideration for final adoption.
