World Language Competence Credit Program for the 2026-27 School Year

Students in grades 7 through 12 have the opportunity to earn up to 4 high school credits in a language they already know. The credits awarded through the World Language (WL) Competency Credit Program meet world language requirements and can be used toward graduation. The number of credits granted is based on the student’s proficiency level as measured by nationally recognized language proficiency assessments. Over the last four years, SVSD has awarded 547 credits to 157 students in 26 languages!

Washington State Seal of Biliteracy

Students who earn the full 4 credits through testing are also awarded the Seal of Biliteracy at graduation. The Seal of Biliteracy is a special notation that appears on a graduate’s high school transcript and diploma as a statement of accomplishment. It can also be earned by scoring a 3 or higher on an AP language exam.
