Opstad Elementary Parking Lot

Construction is now underway on a major traffic safety and parking improvement project at Opstad Elementary that will make student arrival and dismissal safer and more efficient beginning this fall. The project's top priority is improving student safety by separating family vehicle traffic from school buses. A new dedicated car entrance is being constructed on the south side of campus, allowing buses and family vehicles to use separate access points and reducing conflicts during busy arrival and dismissal times.
The project includes:
- A new dedicated entrance for family vehicles
- Separate access points for buses and cars
- Two vehicle queuing lanes for pickup and drop off
- Improved on-campus traffic circulation
- A net increase of 51 parking spaces for families and community events
- A new pedestrian sidewalk along the south side of the property, providing a safer walking route for many students and families approaching from that direction
These improvements are designed to create a safer, more organized arrival and dismissal experience while improving campus traffic flow. The redesigned circulation may also help reduce vehicle backups on nearby streets during peak pickup and drop-off times.
The additional parking will better accommodate families attending evening concerts, performances, parent events, and other school activities.
Construction will continue throughout the summer and is expected to be completed around the start of the new school year. We look forward to welcoming students and families this fall with a safer, more efficient campus entrance.
Funding
This project is being funded with remaining state construction assistance dollars from the District's 2015 Bond, which funded the construction of Mount Si High School and Timber Ridge Elementary School, as well as safety, security, and facility improvements across the District.
Because those original bond-funded projects were completed efficiently, the remaining state funding can now be invested in additional capital improvements, such as the Opstad traffic and parking project. Using these available funds allows the District to enhance student safety and improve campus infrastructure without requiring additional local bond funding.
