Mount Si Student Earns National Recognition in C-SPAN Student Documentary Competition

Congratulations to Mount Si High School student Sophia Long, who was recently named an honorable mention winner in the 2025 C-SPAN StudentCam competition—a national documentary contest that invites students to share messages with the president about issues that matter most to them or their communities.

Sophia’s documentary, titled “Healthcare: A Fundamental Right,” earned her a $250 award in the annual competition, which received more than 1,700 entries from nearly 3,500 students across 42 states and Washington, D.C.

This year’s theme, “Your Message to the President,” prompted students to explore and analyze topics of national and local significance. The most common themes included climate change, education policy, health care, and gun safety. Sophia’s work stood out for its thoughtful research, storytelling, and engagement with a topic that impacts individuals and families across the country.

C-SPAN partners with local cable providers like Comcast in Snoqualmie to offer this unique opportunity to students. Since its launch, the StudentCam competition has awarded more than $1.6 million in prizes and continues to celebrate student voices through project-based learning.
