The Wonderful World of Welding

Today, 101 high school students from Mount Si and Two Rivers participated in the “Blue Collar Tour” where they learned about lucrative welding careers and got a chance to try welding, some for the very first time!

A dynamic team of 10+ welders from the Western Welding Academy has been on a nation-wide blitz visiting 30 high schools in 60 days.  We were delighted to be their 26th destination and honored that Mount Si High School was only school in Washington State selected for this opportunity!

Our students learned from welding demonstrations, got to try hands-on techniques & tools, competed in a fun welding contest, and received lots of cool giveaways throughout the morning from vendors like DeWALT. Also, four seniors were awarded $1000 scholarships to the academy, with an invitation to enter a contest to win a full-ride scholarship!  Congratulations to Aaron Davis, Rogan Gillespie, Stella Sauvage and Reyly Vargas

Before concluding the event, Mount Si Career & Technical Education (CTE) Teachers Michael Buban and Gregg Meyers also received several new welding tools and resources on behalf of the school’s Welding Program!

Senior Sam Leen shared, “I thought the day was pretty fun, and may help get some students excited to pursue careers in welding.” Sam decided his freshman year that he wants to pursue a welding career. He's taken welding courses at Mount Si for the past four years, and plans to attend a technical school in Seward Alaska after graduation.

Special thanks, again, to the Western Welding Academy crew for their empowering program and encouragement of students to learn a trade. Safe travels, as you work your way back home to Gillette, Wyoming, with stops in Idaho and Montana next week.
