Youth Heart Screening Thanks!

A huge shout-out of thanks to the Nick of Time Foundation, for hosting a free Youth Heart Screening today, February 5, for Snoqualmie Valley students. We are grateful to more than 130 compassionate health care professionals (doctors, nurses, emergency responders, volunteers) representing 12 different medical facilities, who are volunteering a full day of service to our students. A whopping 710 students pre-registered for this screening opportunity taking place from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Mount Si High School Gym.

The Nick of Time Foundation was created in memory of Nick Varrenti who died of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) at the age of 16. Based in Mill Creek, this non-profit organization facilitates free EKG heart screenings in schools and communities for students ages 14-24. They also raise awareness that “standard well-child or sports physicals are not comprehensive enough and adding a simple EKG/ECG will identify silent abnormalities that cause SCA.”

Sadly, a similar tragedy happened in our own Snoqualmie Valley community in 2023, when Jake Bailey, a 2017 Mount Si graduate, suddenly died from an undiagnosed heart condition. Our hearts still go out to the Bailey family, who were among today’s caring volunteers. (A poster honoring Jake was displayed at the event and is among the images featured below.)

This Mount Si High School clinic marks the 101st event that the Nick of Time Foundation has sponsored over the past 15 years!  We are truly grateful that Snoqualmie Valley youth are among the thousands of children served by this effort.
