2027-28 School Calendar Survey
Our School Calendar Committee meets several times throughout the year to plan for future school year calendars. Washington school districts are required to provide 180 days of instruction each year and observe all state-required legal holidays.
For the 2027-28 school year, building a calendar that meets those rules while keeping our current break schedule is especially tricky. When we start around our usual time before Labor Day and preserve our traditional breaks, it becomes difficult to finish the year by mid-June without adding instructional days later into the summer. Balancing these factors means we cannot maintain the current break schedule without having school end later in June. When one part of the calendar shifts, other parts of the year must also shift accordingly.
This survey is designed to gather input as the District considers school calendar options for the 2027-28 school year and future years. Before any changes are made, we would like to hear from staff and families about their preferences for the start and end of the school year, as well as the length and timing of breaks.
Your input helps us ensure that we don't start too early or extend too far into the summer.
Note: The 2026-27 school calendar is already approved and is available .
