Discretionary Personal Leave
Per section 29.2 on Discretionary Personal Leave (DPL) in the SVEA contract, the following procedures have been established for requesting DPL. Up to six (6) employees may be granted DPL the day before or after a holiday, vacation period, or optional non-student day. DPL is not available the first 5 student days or the last 5 student days.
DPL will be granted on a first come/first served basis when requested through the established procedures below beginning 9 am on August 1 of the school year.
- Before submitting a request, check your DPL balance in Skyward Employee Access to ensure you have leave available. If the request for leave is approved and it is later determined that the employee does not have an adequate available DPL balance, any days taken will be processed as "unpaid leave." Employees receive two (2) DPL days with pay during a contract year.
- Review the SVEA DPL chart above for the dates you are considering to verify if there are any of the six (6) slots available (table updated weekly). If the date is not listed, it is not a restricted day and you will need to pursue your request with a Certificated Leave Slip.
- If there is a slot available, complete and submit the online DPL Request form below.
- The DPL form submitted by the employee serves as a time stamp to determine the first come/first served order (to be granted or denied). Messages sent to any other email address or person will not be considered or processed.
- Employees will be notified, by email, within five (5) business days if their leave request is approved, denied or waitlisted.
- If an employee receives email approval, print the email and attach it to a Daily Leave Slip (can be found on HR Forms page) and submit to your principal or supervisor for their signature within two (2) days of receiving the email approval.
- Once leave is approved by your principal or supervisor, email the leave slip and approval email to humanresources@svsd410.org. The Payroll department will enter your absence in Skyward. You are responsible for entering your leave in Frontline Absence Management, and attempting to secure a substitute teacher for any leave days.
- If the approval email is received prior to the beginning of the school year, the employee must submit the paper leave request to the principal or supervisor for their signature within two (2) days of returning to work.
If you have any questions regarding the above process, or you need to cancel an approved DPL day, please email humanresources@svsd410.org.
