Battle of the Books is a voluntary contest open to Fourth and Fifth graders. They make a 5 person group and divide up the reading of 12 selected books. Students should read three of the books before starting with a Battle group. The Librarians in the District choose the books yearly and try to select books of varying interest, age of the story, old favorites and new, along with various length and complexity. The NBES Battle Leader is Mrs. Burch, who teaches afternoons in the Tech. Lab. Setting up groups starts in January. Bookmarks with the titles of the books are also available at the library. Adventures of a South Pole Pig - Kurtz Chitty Chitty Bang Bang- Fleming Dewey the Library Cat-Myron Found- Haddix Ghost Dog Secrets - Kehret Gregor the Overlander- Collins Hatchet- Paulsen Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy- Foxlee Out of my Mind- Draper Number the Stars- Lowry Rain Reign- Martin Sign of the Beaver- Spear We will take a copy of any of these books as a donation to the library. Battle of the Books is starting in January for the fourth and fifth grade students. We have currently held the district trophy for the last two years.
