State testing information Fall 2021

This fall, students in grades 9 and 11 will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) or Washington Access to Instruction and Measurement (WA-AIM) tests in math and English language arts (ELA).  In addition, students in grades 9 and 12 will take the 11th grade Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) or the WA-AIM science test.

The Smarter Balanced Assessments are typically given in spring to students in grades 3-8, and grade 10. However, due to the COVID pandemic, the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) postponed spring 2021 tests until fall of 2021. This fall’s Smarter Balanced Assessment has been shortened to ensure that students and teachers have as much time as possible at the start of the school year to establish relationships, routines, and activities. The fall 2021 tests will be reflective of the grade students were in during the 2020-21 school year.

We will resume the normal testing schedule in the spring of 2022, when the Smarter Balanced ELA, math, and the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) assessments will be administered to 3rd-11th grade students aligned to their enrolled grade level.

Below is a table summarizing the state assessments administered by grade level during the 2021-22 school year:

The results from the Smarter Balanced, WCAS and WA-AIM math and/or English language arts tests provide important data for students across the state. This data helps to determine if students are on track to be ready for career or college, and also allows us to respond to needs that surface.

Student assessment scores will be available in Skyward Family access as soon as their score reports are released from OSPI. We will notify you when this occurs.

Our school is scheduled to take the fall assessments: October 26-October 28.

Please call or email Krista Lallemand, lallemandk@svsd410.org if you have questions about state testing.

Thank you for continuing to work with us to make sure your student is successful. We look forward to partnering with you during the upcoming school year.
