Deb Hay Selected as New Mount Si High School Principal

Dear Wildcat Families,
After an extensive interview process, our district is pleased to have selected Deb Hay to be the next principal of Mount Si High School. She will replace Principal John Belcher who accepted a new position for next year as Superintendent of the Cle Elum-Roslyn School District.
Ms. Hay has been a high school administrator in Washington State for over 18 years serving in four districts as a dean, assistant principal, and principal. Ms. Hay began her teaching career in 1998 as a high school special education teacher. She received her bachelor’s in education degree, master’s degree in School Administration, and principal certification from Pacific Lutheran University. Ms. Hay has been an associate principal at Lake Stevens High School for the past six years. Prior to that, she spent three years as the principal of Steilacoom High School and served as assistant principal at both Graham Kapowsin High School and Bethel High School.
An accomplished instructional leader, Ms. Hay prioritizes academic achievement for diverse learners while coaching, mentoring, and team building for high-performing educational teams. She is known for her truly student-centered leadership; strong relationships with students, staff, and community; outstanding systems, organization and communication; and ability to help schools improve their outcomes for every student.
Over the past few weeks, the district recruited applicants based on the feedback received from staff, students, and parents. An outside consultant was also hired to assist in the search. This week, a 16-member team of MSHS staff, students, parents, and administrators interviewed three final candidates. That team was unanimous that one candidate in particular, Ms. Hay, was the best match for the MSHS leadership role. In a final round of interviews yesterday, she participated in several forums with students, admin, staff, and parents. Written feedback from the forums was overwhelmingly positive, as were her references, leading to the hire of Ms. Hay.
Ms. Hay will finish out this school year at Lake Stevens before joining our district this summer. We thank you for your continued partnership. Let’s give Ms. Hay a big and warm Wildcat welcome when she joins us next month!
