Coronavirus Update: A Confirmed Case of COVID-19 at Mount Si High School
Today, we learned one of our MSHS staff members tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is recovering at home. Below is Principal John Belcher's message to MSHS families. As the outbreak expands to our community, please continue to follow and reinforce the advice of Public Health to help curb the spread of illness and keep your loved ones safe. His message follows:
March 18, 2020
Dear Mount Si High School students and families,
Today, we learned that a Mount Si High School staff member has been confirmed to have the coronavirus illness. This person experienced symptoms after school closed last Thursday, self-quarantined as a precaution, and has since tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to patient privacy laws, the identity of the staff member will not be shared, and Mount Si High School remains closed to the public.
We are providing this update as a courtesy and reminder to our school community to exercise safety and social distancing during this time. Due to the increased number of cases, Public Health has let school districts know we can no longer expect notifications about individual case investigations, and their response is focusing on community education and support. Through our partnership with Public Health, we will continue to provide up-to-date information about COVID-19 and refer people with health concerns to their health provider.
Please continue to follow Public Health recommendations, as their guidance may evolve with time: Currently, they encourage social distancing and the following steps to prevent the spread of illness:
Wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
Stay six (6) feet apart from one another
Cover your coughs and sneezes
Stay home when ill or symptomatic
Continue to disinfect high touch surfaces
It is important for anyone who develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (fever, cough, or respiratory problems) to remain home while ill. Please contact your health care provider if you have further concerns.
