King County Issues Outdoor Masking Mandate for Large Events

Under a new masking order, beginning September 7, King County is requiring everyone (ages 5+) to wear masks at large outdoor events with 500 or more people. This was issued to help curb transmission of the Delta variant, due to increasing COVID-19 cases in King County and slowing vaccination rates. (Learn more in this Seattle Times article.)

For our schools, this will apply to football games and any other large outdoor events.  While this officially goes into effect Tuesday, we encourage students and families to gather safely at tonight’s (Sept. 3) home game too -- wearing masks, and sitting in family units. Public Health strongly recommends masking in public places especially where social distancing may be challenging – like a crowded stadium.

We also continue to encourage anyone age 12 and older to get vaccinated. Register for our free SVSD Vaccination Clinics, Sept. 7-9, at all three middle schools next week. These are scheduled three weeks after the last clinics, to support second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.  We also welcome anyone who needs a first dose or other school vaccines. Click here to register and download the consent form required by Snoqualmie Valley Hospital.

Thanks for supporting these safety precautions, as the pandemic endures. Working together, it will take a concerted community effort to keep our students healthy and our school sports programs going strong.
