COVID Safety Reminders for Return to School

As we prepare to return to school in person on Monday, Jan. 3, we want to provide as much information as we can for families and staff.

We are still tracking public health in our region and monitoring the surge in COVID-19 cases. The number of COVID-19 cases in Snoqualmie Valley Schools in the week before winter break remained relatively low. View the SVSD COVID Dashboard here. However, community spread of the Omicron variant throughout our larger region is clear and will likely impact our schools. View King County COVID Dashboard here (includes ability to view data by city).

We are working hard to make sure students and staff can return to school in person safely. Based on current recommendations from CDC, DoH and Public Health, we strongly encourage all our families to:

  • Get vaccinated including a booster shot. Vaccinations are now available for individuals ages 5+, and individuals ages 16+ are eligible for boosters. While breakthrough cases do happen, vaccination is the best line of defense against severe illness.
  • Avoid large gatherings.
  • Continue to wash your hands regularly, wear masks properly, and maintain physical distance from others.
  • Have your student tested for COVID-19 before returning to school. View a list of testing sites on the King County website. Other testing options include Snoqualmie Valley Hospital, purchased home testing kits (not valid for some situations), or your healthcare provider.
  • Please keep your student home if they are experiencing any COVID symptoms and contact your school.

SICK, POSITIVE OR EXPOSED? If you, your student or a family member are experiencing illness symptoms, have been exposed to COVID over break, or have received a positive test result, please visit our resources for determining when and how to return to school. If you remain uncertain, stay home and reach out to your school nurse for guidance.

AT-SCHOOL TESTING: We are continuing our Test-to-Stay program and other school-based COVID testing (with parent permission) to identify and quarantine positive cases while keeping healthy students in school. However, due to capacity limitations this is reserved for symptomatic students/staff and quarantined students due to exposure.  Please contact your school for availability.

WINTER WEATHER REMINDER: We will also notify you if there are any schedule changes due to winter weather. Learn more here.

Thank you for all that you do to keep your family and others healthy and ready for the second half of the school year.
