Culinary Arts Students Pursue Cooking Around the World

Mount Si High School’s Culinary Arts and Digital Media Academy Graphic Design students are working together to design and produce custom-made laser-engraved wooden spoons. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help pay for culinary students to attend the international Cooking Around the World competition this spring in Florida.

The spoons cost $10, and for an additional $1, you can add custom text engraved on the handle. The spoons are embellished by the Graphic Design students using a laser engraver. To check out several designs they created or to place an order for the cook in your life, click here

Currently, students are working to raise money to attend the event on April 26-29 at Disney World. Activities will feature fast-paced culinary competitions which require effective communication, teamwork and strategic planning. Students will also learn from celebrity guest chefs, and gain career insights and inspiration.  This will be the first time that Mount Si Culinary Arts teacher Laura Tarp has taken students to the Cooking Around the World experience.

“Sharing this world-class experience with students has been a dream of mine in the 19 years that I’ve taught Culinary Arts at Mount Si High School,” explained Tarp. “I’m hopeful that this trip will help our Snoqualmie Valley students hone their skills, build their confidence, and possibly envision a future career in the hospitality industry.”
