Opstad Principal Announces Plan to Move this Summer
Opstad Elementary School Principal Ryan Hill recently announced his plans to move this summer to the Boise, Idaho area, to be closer to family. He shared this news with Opstad staff and families on March 27.
“I am honored to have shared in the lives of so many Opstad Otters and their families. I will certainly miss working in this special community of students and families. Our school would not be what it is without their support and partnership with parents and volunteers. It has also been a privilege to work with the amazing staff at Opstad Elementary. In my 19 years as an educator, I have never worked with a more caring, collaborative, supportive and intelligent group of people focused on developing the whole child. I am grateful for my experience at Opstad and know that great work will continue here to benefit every Opstad student,” said Principal Hill.
Hill has served Opstad Elementary as principal for three years and assistant principal for one year. In addition to his principal roles, he has worked in the Snoqualmie Valley School District for the past 13 years. Hill was also a District Technology Integration Leader and Instructional Technology Teacher Trainer, while earning his Principal Certification at Seattle Pacific University. He started in SVSD in 2006 as a science teacher at Mount Si High School, after teaching in Cle Elum for six years. Hill earned his Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Central Washington University.
“Mr. Hill has been a strong member of our leadership team, and an asset to this district. His keen understanding of instructional pedagogy and willingness to share resources and strategies to engage students in their learning, is just one example of how he has helped our staff and students grow,” added Superintendent Rob Manahan. “We wish him the very best in his move and next opportunity.”
To launch the process to hire a principal for next year, the District will begin working to gather input from Opstad staff and PTSA next week. This input will help define the attributes of an ideal candidate to be reflected in the job posting and interview selection criteria. (For those interested in applying, watch for the posting under Job Opportunities, around April 8.) Details will follow regarding the hiring process timeline and next steps after Spring Break.
In the meantime, Ryan Hill will continue as Opstad principal through June 30.
