Career & Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Annual Kick-off Dinner
On Tuesday, October 22, over 60 business and community leaders gathered at Mount Si High School for the school’s annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Fall Kick-off dinner – catered by the school’s own Culinary Arts program.
As part of the Snoqualmie Valley School District’s goal to offer students exposure to a broad range of career pathways, the CTE Advisory Board represents a variety of industries and occupations. Following the kick-off event, CTE program instructors meet regularly with individual program advisories as a way to reach out to experts in the community for advice, assistance, and advocacy. This practice is modeled throughout the state to help educational programs stay grounded in current industry practice. These Snoqualmie Valley community connections help ensure the school’s technical education programs reflect current business trends and emphasize the skills that businesses desire and students will need -- to be successful in the workforce after graduation. Mount Si High School offers more than 45 courses in the CTE Program -- focused on career exploration, skill development, and in some cases, professional certification. Explore the many options available to SVSD students here: Mount Si CTE Pathways and Course Offerings.
With the district’s mission “to prepare all students for college, career and citizenship” in mind, the design of the new Mount Si High School campus strategically locates its CTE program in the center of the campus, most students pass regularly. The classrooms also feature large windows allowing students to easily view the wide range of activities – with the hope that this may spark some new interests and entice students to try a class they may not have otherwise considered.
