Mount Si Jazz News: Essentially Ellington & Bellevue College Festivals

It’s music to our ears -- Mount Si’s among the top 18 bands in the nation selected…

 

Congratulations to Mount Si High School’s Jazz 1 Band which was recently invited to perform at the 25th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival in New York City. This prestigious event on May 7-9, 2020, will feature the top 18 bands in the nation, selected through blind auditions. 

 

This will be the sixth time the Mount Si High School Jazz Band has qualified for Essentially Ellington.  Under the direction of Bill Leather, the Mount Si High School Band will be joined by four other bands from Washington State that include: Garfield, Mountlake Terrace, and Roosevelt high schools, and Seattle JazzED Ellington Ensemble. Mount Si Jazz Finished Strong at 2020 Bellevue College Jazz Festival

Drummer Ethan Horn won outstanding solo award; Jazz 1 placed 3rd out of 17 bands…

 

On February 1, Mount Si Jazz bands and combos had outstanding performances as a part of the 24th Annual Bellevue College Jazz Festival. MSHS students performed for some of Seattle’s best jazz educators and performers, receiving valuable feedback for improvement during extended clinics that followed each performance.

 

After 17 impressive performances by high school bands across the Seattle region, the judges awarded Mount Si High School’s drummer Ethan Horn with an outstanding solo award. Under the direction of Bill Leather, Hannah Mowry, and student teacher Jacob Krieger, the Mount Si Jazz 1 Band finished in 3rd place (behind Seattle’s Roosevelt and Garfield high schools).
