Special thanks to the amazing construction team who has continued to make progress on the field construction, despite one of the wettest months ever. The construction timeline attempted to account for winter weather conditions by providing for additional construction time for potential delays that could be caused by weather. That time was prudent following the incessant rainfall, flooding and snow of the past months.
Currently, the softball field installation (pictured at the base of the photo below) is completed, while the baseball field (shown closer to the new school) needs a few more days of good weather to complete the installation of the turf surface. The baseball bullpens, batting cages, bathrooms and concessions stand are still in progress and will be completed within a few weeks.
We currently anticipate the softball field will be ready for practices to begin next week, with the baseball field being ready for practices after their tryouts at Marymoor Park are completed.

Highlights of the new ball fields include:
Softball and baseball fields
Concessions stand, bleachers and restrooms
Covered batting cages for all-weather practice
Artificial turf to enable year-round play and reduce maintenance costs
LED lighting to extend use times
Plus, soccer lines have been inlayed for multi-purpose usage
As the capacity of the new Mount Si High School has grown to serve 2,300 students, the capacity of the school’s fields also needed to be increased to support student activities. Since the new high school was built on top of the previous baseball and softball fields, the new fields have been constructed at the south, opposite side of the property. This transition provided an opportunity to design the new fields to serve more students. Specifically, the previous grass fields have been replaced with artificial turf; LED lights have been added; and soccer lines have been inlayed into the outfield of the baseball field. These enhancements afford the school and community year-round use, extend the hours of play time, reduce maintenance and operational costs for the district, and allow for the fields to support multiple activities, school programs and sports.
Construction of Mount Si High School’s new softball and baseball fields has been complex, due to the need to elevate the fields above the floodway. Measures have been taken to provide not only drainage for rain that will fall on the field, but also culverts to direct potential floodwaters underneath the field.
“We appreciate the efforts of our Project Manager Clint Marsh, General Contractor Spee West Construction, and the many subcontractors who have worked hard through tough conditions to deliver this phase of the project,” said Superintendent Rob Manahan.
We look forward to our students being able to use both fields starting in March!

The bleachers and concessions stand will be completed soon.
Covered batting cages, which are still being constructed, will support practice in varied weather conditions.
