Update on Mount Si High School’s New Performing Arts Center
Construction of Mount Si High School’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) continues on time and on budget. On February 12, Assistant Superintendent Ryan Stokes provided an update on the PAC progress to Mount Si students during Power Hour, and to parents and families that evening at the combined 8th grade and high school concert. Below are some of the highlights and images he shared.
PAC Highlights include:
Stand-alone structure, with separate lobby and concessions
700-seat auditorium with orchestra pit
3 Music classrooms
1 Drama classroom
1 Woodworking/set design classroom
8 Practice/ensemble rooms
1 Keyboard classroom
Located adjacent to the new gymnasium, the PAC will be separated from the gym by an external breezeway that provides people direct access to the stadium from the front parking lot. (See the rendering below.) The Performing Arts Center was intentionally designed as a separate building to help enhance sound quality in the auditorium. This separation also provides the opportunity for multiple school and community events to take place simultaneously. For example: the sounds of airhorns, whistles, or speakers that often emanate from sporting events in the gym, will be clearly separated from musical concerts, drama performances or orchestra practice sessions that may be underway at the same time in the PAC.
The Performing Arts Center is scheduled for completion by January 2021, in time for use during second semester of the next school year (2020-2021).
Currently, the old auditorium continues to house music education and drama activities as work continues on the new facility. As of February, the installation of the steel structure is nearly complete, so decking will be built next, with concrete work to follow.
