Announcing the 2020 SVSD Educators of the Year!

Congratulations to four devoted Snoqualmie Valley educators who were named the 2020 Educators of the Year by the Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation. On March 2, an entourage of Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation Board members made surprise visits during school to announce these special awards. This year’s Educators of the Year include:

  • Melody Ramsey, a Food Services cook at Mount Si High School, was named the 2020 Classified Educator of the Year.
  • Colleen Myers, who teaches 1st grade at Fall City Elementary School, was selected as the 2020 Elementary School Educator of the Year.
  • Curtis Betzler, who teaches 6th grade science and AVID at Chief Kanim Middle School, was chosen as the 2020 Middle School Educator of the Year.
  • Maryjill Nelson, who teaches English at Mount Si High School, was named the 2020 High School Educator of the Year.

This awards program celebrates outstanding educators in the Snoqualmie Valley School District who:  inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn, have earned respect, lead by example, and play an active role in creating a positive scholastic environment.

Educators are nominated for this honor by parents, students, fellow staff and community members. The Schools Foundation’s Selection Committee is comprised of local business and community leaders, who carefully reviews all nominations to determine who will receive this prestigious honor.

The 2020 Educators of the Year will be guests of honor, along with their families, at the Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation’s Annual Spring Fundraising Luncheon. The luncheon is the Foundation’s most significant annual event that brings together caring community members and businesses to help raise funds that directly support innovative classroom grants and district-wide initiatives that benefit all Snoqualmie Valley students and schools.

Given current recommendations from Public Health to limit large community gatherings, the Schools Foundation has rescheduled this year’s luncheon, which was initially planned for March 19. Instead, the rescheduled SVSF Luncheon will take place May 28, still at The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge.  (Any RSVPs for the original event will automatically be rolled over to the new May date.)

The Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to building community support to provide the best possible education for Every Student in Every Classroom at Every School. For more information, please visit:

Again, we congratulate the 2020 Educators of the Year. Enjoy snapshots below of these honored staff, as they first learned of this exciting honor.
