Continuous Learning Update for the Week of May 11-15

Hello Snoqualmie Valley families,

 

Thank you for your continued partnership as we implement our remote learning model. We remain committed to improving each week, and we appreciate the questions and feedback you’ve shared with us. Here is what you can expect during the upcoming week:

 

Elementary Students

Weekly engagement plans for elementary school students are available every Friday at 4 p.m. 

 

Each week’s Stay Engaged Plan is designed around grade-level priority standards to help students be prepared for the following school year and guide teachers toward determining a grade for the third trimester. All required work in the Stay Engaged Plan is important for students’ progression.

  • Yellow highlighted **required assignments are the minimum requirement for students. Teachers will provide feedback on these highlighted assignments.
  • **Required work is important and will help to guide feedback given on highlighted work.
  • By highlighting specific work to be turned in, we are helping families prioritize what has to be turned in. 

A Monday morning week-in-review video from your child’s teacher will be available to all students Monday by 9 a.m. This video will review all due dates for highlighted assignments in the weekly plan and the dates by which students will receive feedback from the teacher.

 

Social studies has been added to each grade level plan this week. These learning opportunities are aligned to state standards and requirements. Socials studies will replace science this week and will be offered on a rotating basis moving forward.

 

All students will participate in a whole class and/or small group live math lessons with their teacher. If your student cannot attend, please reach out to your teacher for additional opportunities to connect with the teacher.

If you have concerns related to an IEP or 504 plan, please reach out to your child’s case manager (IEP) or the school counselor (504).  

 

MSHS and Middle School Students

On Monday, May 11, each family can expect to receive a report comparing their student’s grades at the time of the closure to their current grades (reflective of student performance on work assigned both before and after the closure). Our purpose for sending this report is to give students and their families a picture of whether students are improving academically, maintaining their academic status, or seeing a drop in grades during remote learning. Teachers will also be reviewing the status of each of their students and reaching out to students who are seeing a drop in grades with offers of support. Parents will be included in this communication.

 

When you receive the report for your student, we highly encourage you to do the following:

  • Celebrate successes and accomplishments.
  • Remember this is not your child’s final grade, and if your child’s grade dropped, it does not mean your child will be receiving an “incomplete.”
  • Email your child’s teacher(s) immediately if your child’s grade has dropped during remote learning. You can schedule an appointment for your child to attend the teacher’s office hours and develop a plan to complete missing work or improve work, and get help in a smaller group setting with course material if needed. Or, you can ask the teacher what your child needs to do in order to make up ground during the next 6 weeks. Our teachers are looking forward to hearing from you and providing this support.
  • If your child is overwhelmed, please reach out to the school counselor. We can provide support for students who are having difficulty with remote learning and other challenges related to a loss of contact with peers and school staff.
  • If you have concerns about a particular class, and you have been in communication previously with the teacher, please reach out to your child’s principal.
  • If you have concerns related to an IEP or 504 plan, and how this works in a remote learning environment, please reach out to your child’s case manager (IEP) or school counselor (504).  

Our teachers are committed to minimizing the number of “incomplete” grades awarded at the end of this school year. During the remaining six weeks, our school teams want to work closely with you and your child to provide the support needed for your child to end the year successfully. We appreciate your partnership in this work, and we understand the challenges you’re facing as you help your child adjust to learning from home. Please continue to reach out to us with questions and concerns. 

 

Two Rivers Students

During the week of May 11-15, please expect to hear from your child’s advisor regarding academic progress during the closure. Staff members at Two Rivers are monitoring each student’s progress closely and look forward to talking with you.
