We’re Hiring School Bus Drivers Now to Train this Summer

Over the next month, Snoqualmie Valley School District is looking to hire several school bus drivers to join our Transportation Department. The District hopes to hire new employees in June, and provide paid training over summer break – in preparation for restarting schools on August 31 for the 2020-21 school year.

“When schools resume in the fall, we anticipate needing at least 10 more drivers to add to our team to meet the current needs of all our schools and student activities,” explained SVSD Director of Transportation Belle Tromp. “It’s possible too, given the social distancing guidelines that may be required in the fall, that we could need even more drivers.  We are preparing now to be ready for the fall, to provide the best possible service to our students and District.”

  • Do you want to work the same schedule as your children or grandchildren, and have summers off?
  • Are you retired and looking for a way to stay busy and enjoy connecting with youth?
  • Are you a local college student looking for flexible work hours?
  • Are you an experienced driver with an excellent safety record?
  • Would you like to work locally and help our community?

If you answered yes to any of these question, we invite you to come make a difference!  This is an ideal job for those who seek flexibility or want to supplement other part-time positions.

Candidates must meet the safety and experience requirements as outlined in RCW 392-144-101.  The District provides paid training and will reimburse drivers for the cost of obtaining or renewal of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) up to $315.  Once training is completed, beginning substitute drivers earn $24.82 an hour; the starting wage on regular routes is $26.13.  (New drivers are typically hired into substitute driver roles, after which opportunities often turn into permanent positions.)

As an extra incentive, the District is also offering a $1,500 starting bonus upon completing the program requirements and transporting students.

Interested candidates:  Please apply online by visiting the district website (www.svsd410.org) and select the Job Opportunities tab.  Select View Job Postings then the Bus Driver position.

“Each year, school districts across our state struggle to hire enough school bus drivers to meet their needs.  Our district, which spans over 425 square miles, is especially dependent on our school buses to help transport students to and from school safely,” added Tromp. “Please consider this opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children throughout our community!”  Read the flyer.

If you have questions for the Transportation Department, please email TransOffice@svsd410.org or call 425-831-8020 and select option 4.
