Good News: School Meals Now Offered for FREE to Children 0-18 Years
Good News: This week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved waivers that will allow school districts to provide FREE school meal service – breakfast and lunch on school days – for any youth ages 0-18, whether enrolled or not in school. Snoqualmie Valley School District will now offer meals, free of charge, on school days similar to how they were provided during the closure last spring. The USDA has indicated the waivers will apply through December 31, 2020, or until federal funds run out.
Currently, our Food Services department is distributing school meals at five school locations, Monday through Friday, when school is in session – 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.:
Cascade View Elementary (24816 SE Ridge Street, Snoqualmie, WA 98065)
Fall City Elementary (33314 SE 42nd St., Fall City, WA 98024)
Mount Si High School (8651 Meadowbrook Way SE, Snoqualmie, WA 98065)
North Bend Elementary (400 East Third St., North Bend, WA 98045)
Opstad Elementary (1345 Stilson Ave. SE North Bend, WA 98045)
In addition, to the school distribution sites above, our district will offer meals at 9 bus route locations. (See the chart below.) Buses will wait at each location from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to give families a 75-minute window of time to retrieve meals. Parents and guardians may pick up meals for their children.
We also ask that families observe COVID-19 safety precautions when picking up meals -- wearing masks, staying in vehicles for curbside delivery, and waiting at least 6 feet apart when picking up meals on foot or by bike.
NEW: Families are asked to complete a daily pre-order form, when possible, to help us plan for quantities at each site. This is not required, however, and walk-ups will be served. Menus are posted here. (Special dietary meals may also be requested, with an approved medical statement on file.)
Also, starting Friday, September 11, the Helping Hands Ministry will resume it's Weekend Packpack Program again, providing families with food and snack items to help support students' nutritional needs on weekends. Distribution will take place at the five school locations, noted above. We appreciate the heart and generosity of our Helping Hands community partner!
Free & Reduced Price School Meal Program
SVSD students who qualify for the federal Free and Reduced-price (F/R) Meals Program, through the National School Lunch & Breakfast program, should still submit a new 2020-21 application this year. In addition to free or discounted meals when the USDA waiver ends, other types of assistance may be available for income-eligible families who apply. If your family has lost income due to COVID-19, be sure to check if you may now qualify. Learn more here.
