Emergency Test Calls & Communication Resources


Each fall, our district works to update parent and staff emergency contact information and practice our emergency systems.  Please read the following thoroughly to ensure you are signed up for all our communication resources and know where to look for updates during a school emergency.  It may be helpful to print this for future reference, in case there’s a power outage or internet service is down.


Upcoming ALL PARENT TEST of Emergency Call/Email/Text System

The Snoqualmie Valley School District uses the SchoolMessenger system as a reliable emergency communications tool for sending mass notifications via phone/email/text messages to parent/guardian and staff phone numbers in our Skyward student database.  Depending on the situation, notifications may be sent districtwide or specifically to one school.


To test this system, the district will conduct its annual ALL PARENT TEST CALL on Wednesday, October 14, between 5-6 p.m.  All parents/guardians of active students enrolled in our schools will be sent a TEST EMERGENCY message – in the form of:

  • a voice message to home/cell phone number(s) that are in our system;
  • an email message to the email address they provided their school(s);
  • and, as a text message to those who have opted in to receive texts. (See instructions below for how to sign up for emergency texts.)

The email message will also be translated into Spanish for families who registered that Spanish is the primary language spoken at home.



  • Before Wednesday, please make sure your school has your updated information and accurate emergency contacts, so you can be reached during an emergency. (If you completed the RSVP process this year, hopefully you reviewed and updated this important information already.)
  • After the ALL PARENT TEST, if you did not receive a test message or discover some other issue, you can update emergency contacts in Skyward Family Access as follows:

Log into Family Access, and select “Student Info” to verify your student’s contact information.  If you need to make a correction, select “Request Changes for STUDENT NAME” on the right side of the page, under district links. This will offer options for changes you can make to your student’s profile, including emergency contacts.

  • If you have questions, please contact your office staff at your school for assistance.
  • Lastly, please be sure to listen to any voice message that comes from the school district, before immediately calling back. After each automated message the district sends out, our receptionist gets inundated with calls, from parents asking why we called. We appreciate your cooperation, as our capacity to respond is limited and we will want to keep phone lines functional during a real emergency.

The Snoqualmie Valley School District will post updates as follow, during an emergency:

  • District website:   Look for the top district headline, as this is typically the first and primary resource that is updated during an emergency. Also, when schools will be closed or starting late, check the district “announcement” (upper left corner of the homepage).
  • District hotline: 425-831-8494   Call in to listen to a recorded message.
  • Sign up for emails/texts of information sent to the media. School districts use this service to inform media of school closures and late starts – which results in the media ticker you’ll see on morning news stations.   • Tune in to local TV & radio stations

School Closures or Late Starts

On mornings of questionable weather, please check the resources above for updates, starting with the district website at:


If schools are closed or starting late, the district will also initiate its mass notification system to inform families of early morning schedules changes, as follows:

  • An ALL STAFF call/email/text will be pushed out as soon as a decision is made, typically between 4:30-5:00 a.m.
  • An ALL PARENT call/email/text will follow -- between 5:15-5:30 a.m.
  • Schedule changes, involving closures and delays, will also continue to be posted on other communications resources that include: district website,, district hotline, and district Facebook/Twitter. 


If there is no message regarding the Snoqualmie Valley School District, assume all of our schools are running on schedule.  We do not send a message stating schools are on schedule.

Be sure to double check the resources above just prior to leaving for school too, since there have been rare occasions when conditions have worsened significantly between the time a decision is made (before 5 a.m.) and the actual start time of school.  Additionally, become familiar with your snow bus routes (Areas A, B and C) via Emergency Transportation information link, if limited transportation is needed.


How to Sign Up for Emergency Texts from the District:

Since texting may incur a cost for users from their service provider, parents/guardians and staff in our system, who want to allow emergency texts from the district, need to “opt in” for this capability. For more information about the SchoolMessenger Text Messaging Service, please read this flyer (in English and Spanish). 

TO SIGN UP:  On your mobile phone, simply address a text to: 67587, type “Y” or “YES” as the message, then hit send. (If you sign up but change your mind, you can opt out of text messages at any time by simply replying “stop” to one of our messages.)


How to Sign Up for FlashAlert Notices to Media:

The Snoqualmie Valley School District uses, along with all Puget Sound area school districts, to post emergency closure or late start information to local media. Subscribers can view information online and/or sign up to receive the brief email message that news media receive. The preferred method to access emergency closure information is through the free mobile app called FlashAlert Messenger.


  • Go to
  • Click on Manage your Messenger Subscription.
  • Follow instructions to login or Create New Account.
  • Choose a region to Add an Organization.
    • Select Seattle/Western Washington.
    • Search for King Co. Schools and Snoqualmie Valley SD.
  • Click Subscribe and follow instructions for confirming your email address and account options.
  • Information about downloading the free FlashAlert Messenger app is also on this page.
