URGENT REQUEST: Seeking Bus Drivers, Emergency Substitute Teachers, Substitute Paraeducators, Health Room Assistants & a School Bus Mechanic

As our district prepares for at-school learning, by gradually phasing in groups of students per state guidelines, we have a significant need to hire more school bus drivers, emergency substitute teachers, substitute paraeducators, health room assistants and a bus mechanic (newly added). The pandemic, coupled with the related new public health requirements for schools, is presenting new challenges for adequately staffing our schools. For example, social distancing in classrooms means few students are allowed per room, and if a teacher needs to stay home sick, we can no longer combine classrooms for supervision.

Many parents have reached out to inquire what they can do to help get students back in school.  Now we have these very urgent and important needs that we implore all to consider. Bus drivers, emergency substitute teachers, substitute paraeducators, health room assistants and another school bus mechanic are critical for our district’s ability to support more students in person, and to keep schools open once students are approved to return.

Please apply online through the Job Opportunities link on the district website.

There you will find job postings for the following positions.

Bus Driver:

The district provides paid training and reimbursement for CDL licensing, and once trained, starting wages are $26.13/hour. Additionally, the district is offering new hires a $1,500 bonus opportunity (specifically, this is a $1,000 bonus upon completion of the training program and a  $500 bonus once a driver is assigned a regular route). Current SVSD employees can also earn a $500 bonus for referring a candidate who completes the training and begins driving students.

If you have any questions about working in our Transportation Department, please contact Belle Tromp at (425) 831-8020 or trompb@svsd410.org. If you know of anyone who would like to become a bus driver, please encourage them to apply as soon as possible through Job Opportunities. While we have been dealing with a bus driver shortage for years, this need is even greater during the pandemic since some drivers are not available due to health risks.
