School Board Approves New SVEA Contract

On September 15, 2016 the Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors approved a new three-year contract with the Snoqualmie Valley Education Association (SVEA). Previously, SVEA members held a general membership meeting on August 23 and approved the contract with a 98% vote.

School Board President Geoff Doy complimented the successful collaboration achieved using an Interest Based Bargaining approach to negotiations. “As Board members, we have the pleasure and privilege of observing some of these bargaining sessions and we’ve been through a couple of these sessions now. I have to say this last session was a complete change of approach from what we’ve seen in the past. It was collaborative. It was team based. It was people understanding each other’s issues. I want to commend President Lisa Radmer and her team, as well as Mr. Hogan and his team. They did an excellent job devoting hours and hours and hours of really patient and diligent work that got to this result -- which I’m sure will be the basis for that style of negotiation for years to come,” said Doy.

SVEA President Lisa Radmer addressed the Board stating, “This recent bargain was productive, collaborative, more respectful, and I believe opened up new avenues of communication. I would like to thank both district and association team members who embraced the new style and brought to the table an eagerness to work toward a common goal… It is the wish of the SVEA membership that we continue to embrace the Interest Based Model in ALL the work we do together.”
