The Snoqualmie Valley School District is continually reviewing methods, resources and staff training opportunities to bolster safety and emergency preparedness in all schools. Feedback from the community, via the District’s most recent Thoughtexchange engagement activity, also confirms that school safety remains a priority for families. From installing new security systems funded by the 2015 bond measure to practicing drills throughout the year at schools with students and staff, the District is having honest and informative conversations with students, staff and parents about school safety and the District’s emergency response systems, including active threat situations.
In some instances, these can be challenging conversations to have with young people and adults alike. However, considering the growing number of incidents where people in schools, offices, places of worship, theaters and shopping centers have been victimized across the nation, it is extremely important to have open dialogue about ways to reduce the risks to the community.
To get this conversation started in the Snoqualmie Valley schools, the District has invited Jesus Villahermosa to speak to all middle school and high school students and staff. A former deputy sheriff and S.W.A.T. Team member, Jesus is an expert in the field of responding strategically to active threats and presents his “Crisis Reality Training” seminar to school districts throughout the country. (Click here for his biography.) The focus of the program is Lockdown, Evacuation and Survival Tactics (L.E.A.S.T.). It is a very realistic approach to a timely and often emotional topic.
The District looks forward to Mr. Villahermosa addressing the learning community on the important topic of school safety. Listed below are the scheduled student/staff presentation times:
Tuesday, October 4 (see photos below)
8:00 a.m. Twin Falls Middle School

1:15 p.m. Chief Kanim Middle School

The District is committed to making its schools as safe and secure as possible. Safety precautions, security systems, and response training will continue to be a focus throughout the coming school year and in years to come.
As a parent or guardian, if you want your child excluded from attending this assembly, please contact your school principal to opt out.
In addition, the District is inviting Mr. Villahermosa to speak and answer questions at a district-wide parent/community meeting. This FREE parent presentation will take place at 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, at the Mount Si High School Auditorium. Due to the content and delivery aimed more towards an adult audience, this will be a “parents only” event.
All parents are invited to attend this Active Threat Crisis Training for Parents on Tuesday, October 11, at 6:00 p.m. at Mount Si High School to hear this compelling presentation and ask questions.
