Students De-Stress During Rest and Relax Week


The week before finals, Mount Si High School students hosted Rest and Relax Week (#DESTRESSFEST). This was a first-time event at Mount Si, aimed at relieving stress and providing students with coping mechanisms before first semester finals.


“We organized the week because we felt like high school students and young teens do not know enough about mental health and the stigma around it. Giving kids the proper coping mechanisms going into finals week was our goal,” explained Julia Saimo, Mount Si’s ASB Interhigh Rep.


Each day offered a different opportunity for students to de-stress:

  • Mindfulness Monday – encouraged breathing exercises and guided meditations that students could use when they are stressed out.
  • Tech Free Tuesday – encouraged students NOT to bring their phones to school, and to disconnect from social media.
  • Wellness Wednesday – welcomed a Snoqualmie-based yoga studio, Pineapple Life, to the school to teach a yoga seminar for all students, during Mount Si High School’s Power Hour.
  • Thoughtful Thursday – promoted sending positive messages to friend during lunch.
  • Feel Good Friday – concluded the week with students receiving stress balls and good luck wishes for a positive finals week!
